As early as 16 17, someone petitioned the king of James I to establish a university in Yorkshire. 164 1 year, the second petition failed because of the English civil war in 1642. The third petition of 1647 was submitted to the parliament, but it was rejected by the parliament. 1820, people began to discuss the necessity of establishing a university in northern England, but the school was not established in Yorkshire.
1832, another world-famous university, Durham University, was established. 1903, F.J. Mumby and the Yorkshire Philosophical Society proposed to establish Victoria University in Yorkshire.
