There stands a tall and straight cycad in front of Mingde Building in Guanghua Campus of the school, which has an unusual history. Sinorama cycad was planted in 1939 by teachers and students of Guanghua University in Chengdu at that time. That year, during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, in order to express the desire for victory in the Anti-Japanese War, President Xie Lin led teachers and students to raise funds to buy a twin cycad seedling and plant it on campus. This Cycas has a peculiar "V" shape, which is used by teachers and students to symbolize the wishes for the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.

Cycas has since stood in Guanghua Garden, silently witnessing the development of Guanghua Garden for decades. Cycas gradually became the symbol of perseverance, perseverance and courage of Guanghua people, and became a portrayal of the patriotic feelings of Guanghua teachers and students. Therefore, this tree was named "Guanghua Cycas".
