Many people have taken calligraphy classes since childhood, or have hobbies in this field, and are proud of being able to write calligraphy. When it comes to calligraphy and law, many art candidates feel a little unpopular and think that they can only make a living by selling words after studying this major. Throughout China's colleges and universities, there are actually many institutions offering calligraphy majors, but the scale of talent training is limited. What do you major in calligraphy law? What can you do in the future? What problems should I pay attention to when applying for law major?
Calligraphy majors not only teach writing.
In many people's minds, calligraphy is often equated with hobbies and personal cultivation, but it is still relatively unfamiliar to the calligraphy major. Although calligraphy has a long history of several thousand years in China, it didn't become an independent enrollment major until 20 13.
Although calligraphy is an art discipline, it is not unique to art colleges. At present, more than 80 colleges and universities in China offer calligraphy and law majors at the undergraduate level. Among them, the most concerned candidates are art colleges. In particular, the calligraphy and law majors of top art colleges such as the Central Academy of Fine Arts make many candidates have to apply even if they want to repeat.
In addition, normal universities are also large students of calligraphy, such as Beijing Normal University and Jiangsu Normal University. The establishment of calligraphy specialty in normal universities is not unrelated to the strong demand for calligraphy teaching talents in higher education and basic education in China in recent years.
In recent years, more and more other types of colleges and universities have also set up calligraphy majors, including Central University of Finance and Economics, Xi Jiaotong University and many other financial colleges that are good at engineering. The enrollment institutions and enrollment of this major are growing rapidly.
It may be a familiar learning scene for most calligraphy lovers to set pen, ink, paper and inkstone in their study and let the teacher teach copybook copying in the classroom. However, in universities, the teaching of calligraphy goes far beyond this. From the perspective of training objectives, this major aims to train practical senior professionals with extensive calligraphy professional knowledge, strong calligraphy professional skills, broad cultural vision, good comprehensive quality and innovative ability, who can be competent in calligraphy creation, calligraphy theory research, calligraphy teaching and comprehensive application of calligraphy art.
Xu Hai, director of the Calligraphy Department of the School of Chinese Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, said that in the process of learning calligraphy in this school, students should systematically learn a variety of calligraphy styles under the guidance of teachers, and the requirements for calligraphy professional skills are much higher than those for amateur learning. Moreover, the study of calligraphy specialty is not a simple skill teaching, and the relevant theoretical knowledge and the traditional cultural foundation of China are included in the calligraphy training system. A major feature of the training of calligraphy professionals in this school is the trinity of calligraphy, painting and seal cutting, among which the proportion of calligraphy teaching is the highest, followed by seal cutting teaching and Chinese painting teaching. After graduation, students have a wider adaptability and can choose the future development direction in a wider dimension.
Students majoring in calligraphy law in Beijing Normal University not only study calligraphy-related professional courses, but also study Chinese characters, ancient Chinese, literary aesthetics and other literary courses, as well as some general courses of art majors, such as computer art, etc. Therefore, in terms of the systematicness, completeness, depth and breadth of talent training, calligraphy major is incomparable to ordinary amateur calligraphy learning.
Employment does not depend on "selling words for a living"
Chen Yanan, a graduate student majoring in calligraphy law at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, dreams of becoming a professional calligrapher in the future. Previously, he had thought about "cultivating" his professional skills through other jobs. For calligraphy graduates, it is not difficult to find a job or even start a business.
Judging from the current employment situation of calligraphy major, the education industry is an important employment field for graduates of this major. Xu Hai introduced that calligraphy has a deep mass base in China. With the national education departments at all levels paying more and more attention to the traditional culture of China, it has become a general trend to popularize calligraphy teaching at all educational stages. From primary school to university, there is a big talent gap for professional calligraphy teachers.
Many people have been exposed to calligraphy elective courses in primary and secondary schools. However, most of the teachers at that time were Chinese teachers or art teachers, which could not meet the needs of popularizing calligraphy education. For example, at the beginning of popularizing calligraphy education in primary and secondary schools in Guangdong Province, there was an embarrassing gap of 2,000 people, and the demand for talents in only one province exceeded the annual training scale of calligraphy professionals in China. In 20 13, after the Ministry of Education issued the Guiding Outline of Calligraphy Education in Primary and Secondary Schools, calligraphy education was further popularized throughout the country from primary schools to universities, and the demand for calligraphy talents with professional training above undergraduate level was even stronger.
Apart from school education, amateur calligraphy teaching in society has a deep market foundation for a long time. Especially in recent years, the upsurge of "Sinology fever", from children to the elderly, more and more amateurs have devoted themselves to calligraphy learning. The expansion of the training scale of calligraphy talents in colleges and universities across the country, in turn, stimulated the training demand before the art examination, making this market flourish in recent years, and many calligraphy graduates devoted themselves to entrepreneurship in this field. Generally speaking, the future employment prospects of calligraphy major are good.
Pang Zhonghua, a graduate student majoring in calligraphy and law, said that his classmates did everything after graduation, including going to the Federation of Literary and Art Circles, newspapers, media and advertising planning and design. From the perspective of employment, calligraphy is no different from many general liberal arts or art majors, and it is a subject with strong employment adaptability. All kinds of media publishing departments, museums and other cultural departments, and even general enterprises and institutions are active in calligraphy graduates.
Xu Hai believes that although it is not difficult for undergraduates majoring in calligraphy and law to find jobs, it is still necessary for undergraduates to pursue further studies if conditions permit. Calligraphy is an art, and undergraduate training focuses on the foundation. If you want to improve your professional level, you need more time to study systematically. Su Zhenyu, a graduate student of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, said that in the postgraduate stage, students can choose a certain style system as a special topic for in-depth study and learn more about calligraphy theory, which is of great benefit to their future career development.
It's not a bad thing to study calligraphy again.
As an art major, candidates who apply for calligraphy should be prepared for the extra test. Generally speaking, the art test of calligraphy law major is divided into two parts: calligraphy copying and calligraphy creation, and some colleges and universities will also take calligraphy theory related knowledge.
Taking the Central Academy of Fine Arts as an example, in recent years, in the additional examination of calligraphy law major in the school, calligraphy copying is divided into official books (Kai, Li, Seal, etc. ) copying and cursive writing, and calligraphy creation is divided into formal book creation and cursive writing. Candidates who apply for this major should have a good formal writing foundation and strong creative ability, and cursive script is often the one that opens the gap in scores.
Before entering the exam, candidates should first understand the learning characteristics of the major and the characteristics of the additional exam, and it is best to get in touch with the students at school and learn the exam experience. You also need to apply for the relevant pre-test classes. Teachers in pre-test classes may come from the same major in relevant institutions and can provide more targeted counseling. Studying with like-minded students in the pre-test class can create a good learning atmosphere, compare and promote each other. This is the correct rhythm of the law major of the preparation book, and the effect is far better than "behind closed doors".
Xu Hai believes that although there are many colleges and universities offering calligraphy and law majors, and candidates have many choices, candidates who set their volunteer goals as national first-class art colleges should be psychologically prepared, including the spirit of not being afraid of failure. For such candidates, the art test is not a shortcut, and it is not necessarily a bad thing to choose to repeat. In art majors, repeat students are often more secure in their studies and have a better chance to cultivate a higher artistic standard than the candidates who entered this year. The knowledge of high school culture class is limited, but there is no "ceiling" for polishing skills and understanding art. Repeated study of culture class may only bring about the improvement of scores, and repeated training of art skills will bring about the improvement of substantive level. The fine arts skills accumulated by candidates in the process of re-reading are by no means useless and will not be wasted in future university studies.
Pang Zhonghua also believes that choosing a calligraphy major is best not to take shortcuts to get a diploma. Whether you have a strong interest and whether you study hard consciously determines what kind of life learners will write on the road of calligraphy.
