Software College of Shanxi Agricultural University was founded by Shanxi Agricultural University and WDP Center of Oracle Bone Inscriptions Company. Shanxi Agricultural University is responsible for the teaching of students' basic courses, public courses and most specialized courses, while Shanxi WDP Center of Oracle Bone Inscriptions Company is responsible for the teaching of some specialized courses and all practical courses.

At present, the college has the only authorization point for the second-class doctoral degree in intelligent agricultural system engineering and the authorization point for the academic master degree in intelligent agricultural system engineering, as well as the master degree training point in agricultural informatization (software engineering direction), and two undergraduate majors: software engineering and digital media art and service outsourcing, cloud computing and big data, digital finance, digital media and game software development, embedded software development, smart space, mobile Internet application, network information security and JAVA enterprise application.
In 2007, the college enrolled 2285 undergraduates, and professional teaching laboratories such as software engineering laboratory, cloud computing and data mining laboratory, digital media art laboratory, embedded development laboratory, network information security laboratory, financial informationization laboratory and student innovation laboratory have been built or are under construction, and equipped with advanced experimental teaching equipment, which can meet the learning and scientific research needs of undergraduates, master students and doctoral students.
