Huazhong Agricultural University is one of the starting points of higher agricultural education in China. The school's predecessor was Hubei Agricultural School founded by Zhang Zhidong, Governor of Huguang in Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, on 1898. After several evolutions, from 65438 to 0952, Huazhong Agricultural College was established in all departments of Agricultural College of Wuhan University, Hubei Agricultural College and some departments of Agricultural College of six comprehensive universities such as Sun Yat-sen University. 1979, approved by the State Council as a national key university, directly under the Ministry of Agriculture. 1985, renamed Huazhong Agricultural University.
