Southwest University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Chongqing Municipality. It is the first batch of double-class construction universities in China, with 2 1 1 engineering innovation platform and 985 engineering advantages.
The main school is located in Beibei District, Chongqing, at the foot of Jinyun Mountain and beside Jialing River, covering an area of about 8,347 mu, with a school building area of 1.93 million square meters and a green space rate of 40%. This is a magnificent and solemn campus full of weather. It is a well-known garden-style school in China and a civilized campus commended by the Ministry of Education.
The school can be traced back to East Sichuan Normal School, which was established in 1906. Several generations later, it was renamed Sichuan Education College on 1936. 1950, the departments of education, Chinese, foreign languages, history, geography and mathematics of Sichuan Institute of Education merged with the National Women's Teachers College established in 1940 to form Southwest Normal College, and the departments of agronomy, horticulture and agricultural products manufacturing merged with the private Xianghui College established in 1946 to form Southwest Agricultural College.
In 2005, Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University merged to form Southwest University, which opened a new chapter in the development of the school.
