Dunhuang College of Northwest Normal University was established in May, 20 14. With the approval of Gansu Provincial Department of Education, it was co-founded by Northwest Normal University and Dunhuang Municipal People's Government to implement full-time undergraduate education.
Northwest Normal University is one of the earliest universities in China engaged in the research and training of Dunhuang studies. As early as the 1920s, the famous historian Chen Yuan taught Dunhuang studies at Peking University's predecessor, Beijing Normal University, and published The Record of Tomb Robbery in Dunhuang.
Since 1930s, archaeologists Huang Wenbi, Yan Wenru, He, famous scholar Feng and Dunhuang scholar Chang Shuhong have all taught in our school.
After the founding of New China, Professor Jin Baoxiang, Professor Wen, Professor Hong, Professor Chen Shouzhong and Professor Zhao Kuifu successively taught Dunhuang studies in the fields of history, literature and art.
