The school, formerly known as Huizhou Normal School in Guangdong Province, was founded in 1946. 1978 was upgraded to Huiyang Teachers College, and 199 1 was the only normal college in Guangdong Province commended by the State Education Commission, and was rated as a first-class university in the evaluation of the running level of colleges and universities in Guangdong Province.
