Tongji Medical University was originally a medical college under Tongji University, and its departments were adjusted in 52 years. In order to support the medical development in central China, Tongji Medical University moved to Wuhan and became one of the best medical schools in China.

Tongji University's predecessor was the German Medical College founded by German doctor paulun erich on 1907. The following year, it was renamed Tongji Devon yiguang; 19 12 merged with the newly established Tongji Devon Medical College and changed its name to Tongji Devon Medical College; Tongji University was officially named1923; 1927 National Tongji University, one of the seven earliest national universities in China.
