Experience of Overseas Alumni Association of Jilin University
( 1993- 1995)

The preparatory work for the overseas alumni association of Jilin University began in 1993. Gu Xinying and Alva Wang from the Computer Department of Jilin University, as well as most of their overseas classmates and several alumni from the Department of Foreign Languages and Mathematics of Jilin University, were the founders of the Overseas Alumni Association of Jilin University. The preparatory work includes publicity, liaison and assignment of personnel and tasks, mainly including the following activities:

● Contact overseas alumni. The primary task of overseas alumni association of Jilin University is to contact overseas alumni all over the world, and the more the better. After three years of preparation, when the Alumni Association was officially announced, * * * had contacted more than 800 overseas alumni.

● The Overseas Alumni Association of Mathematics Department of Jilin University was merged with more than 100 members at that time. As a result, the overseas alumni association of Jilin University also began to use the website of the overseas alumni association of Mathematics Department of Jilin University.

● Contact overseas Chinese delegations. The Alumni Association has established close ties with overseas Chinese delegations such as new york Northeast Hometown Association of Jilin University, North American Alumni Association of Jilin University of Technology and American Association for Science and Technology. At that time, the two leaders of the Alumni Association were also the vice presidents of the Northeast Association, and participated in the organization and operation of the Northeast Association.

● Contact Jilin University. In the past three years, * * * three people took the opportunity to return to Jilin University to meet with the relevant departments of the school, announce the progress of the preparatory work and exchange views.

● Make an address book. The Alumni Association made a contact list of registered alumni three times and mailed it to registered alumni by letter.

● Register with the government. The Alumni Association was registered as a non-profit organization in the New York State Government before it was officially announced. ( 1996- 1999)

1996- 1999 The main events are:

● Alumni reunion is held once a year, but due to geographical restrictions, the reunion is limited to New Zealand and New Zealand.

● Take an active part in various social activities, the most prominent of which is to organize a 10,000-person float parade in new york to celebrate the return of Hong Kong. Due to the special status of overseas alumni association as an organizational unit, CCTV specially arranged an interview with the person in charge of the alumni association and made a wonderful report in China.

● The establishment of the Jida Newcomer Award provides a substantial channel for alumni to give back to their alma mater. By the end of 1998, dozens of members of the Alumni Association had donated $5,000 and awarded 22 top candidates in the college entrance examination. Due to some technical difficulties, the Jida Newcomer Award was temporarily suspended.

● Establish three websites to facilitate exchanges between alumni:

① Bandai/Wang Li, ② Steven, ③ Red Wall.

Website ① has the longest history and abundant information, but many of them are out of date.

The website (2) has adopted some new web design techniques and new materials, mainly including a roster of more than 100 people and a "recent news" column, but its forum has been inactive.

Website ③ stands at a new historical height by using the resources of "China surfing the Internet". With the efforts of webmasters and the active participation of many alumni, an active forum has been established, and the website ③ has become more and more colorful.
