Southwest University of Science and Technology traces its origins to Jiangjinyao Technical School and Sichuan Advanced Agricultural Vocational School, which were founded in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period.

After several relocations, the school has developed into a full-time multi-disciplinary undergraduate college, one of the universities in the western region 14 designated by the Ministry of Education, a newly-added doctoral degree authorized school in Sichuan Province, a university jointly established by the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau and the Sichuan Provincial People's Government, and one of the pilot universities of modern distance education in China.

Southwest University of Science and Technology (SWUST) is located at No.59, the middle section of Qinglong Avenue, Fucheng District, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province.
