The College now has seven departments (Department of Biochemistry, Department of Cell Biology, Department of Ecology, Department of Genetics, Department of Microbiology, Department of Plant Science and Department of Virology) and two centers (Biological Experiment Teaching Center and * * * Enjoying Equipment Center). It has established the State Key Laboratory of Virology, the National Field Science Observatory of Liangzihu Freshwater Ecosystem in Hubei Province, the State Key Laboratory of Hybrid Rice (Wuhan University), the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Plant Biotechnology and Genetic Resources Utilization, the China Typical Culture Preservation Center, the Hubei Amino Acid Engineering Technology Research Center, the Hubei Lotus Root Engineering Technology Research Center and other scientific research bases, and has a large-scale and distinctive animal and plant specimen museum.
