(2) Developing science is an important function of modern universities. The function of developing science is embodied in the scientific research activities of universities. As an important way to cultivate talents, scientific research activities play an increasingly important role in talent training. First of all, scientific research helps to improve the quality of teaching and is the main source of continuous updating of teaching content. Secondly, scientific research helps to improve the level of teachers. Third, scientific research is conducive to developing students' intelligence and cultivating students' ability. At the same time, in the process of cultivating specialized talents, colleges and universities have created good material and spiritual conditions for scientific research development from the aspects of disciplines, the number and level of experts, advanced instruments and equipment, rich literature, extensive information sources and good scientific research atmosphere. Therefore, colleges and universities naturally become the main force or important corps of scientific research.
(3) Serving the society is an extension of the function of contemporary universities. First of all, in a broad sense, cultivating talents and developing science serve the society, but colleges and universities also provide direct services to the society through various forms. Secondly, it is the objective need of society for colleges and universities to serve the society directly. Third, the direct service of colleges and universities to society is also the need of their own development.
In a word, the three functions of modern colleges and universities, namely, cultivating talents, developing science and serving the society, are interrelated and permeated with each other, and * * * has become the functional system of modern colleges and universities.
