The school covers an area of 1800 mu, with 19 colleges and 34 undergraduate majors, with more than 24,000 full-time students, including more than 2,800 graduate students. It is a university of traditional Chinese medicine with traditional Chinese medicine as the main body and interdisciplinary and coordinated development of science, engineering, management, literature, agriculture and teaching.
Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, formerly known as Chengdu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was founded in 1956. It is one of the earliest four institutions of higher learning of traditional Chinese medicine in China, which was established with the approval of the State Council under the cordial care of Zhou Enlai and other first-generation leading collectives of the Party and the country. 1995 was renamed with the approval of the State Education Commission; In June 2006, Sichuan Reproductive Health College and Sichuan Health Management Cadre College were merged into Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
