Chongqing Medical University is a university jointly founded by the people of China, the Ministry of Education, the National Health and Wellness Commission and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. The school has successively been selected into the national "11plan", "Basic Capacity Building Project of Central and Western Universities", "Excellent Doctoral Education and Training Plan", the national public postgraduate program of high-level universities, the national "featured key discipline program" of universities and the scholarship receiving institution of China government for international students in China.
Chongqing Medical University was founded on 1956. Founded by Shanghai First Medical College (now Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University), it moved to Chongqing. Its original name was Chongqing Medical College, and 1985 was renamed Chongqing Medical University. In 2008, the strategic cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Education and Chongqing identified the school as a key university.

The school has two campuses, Yuanjiagang and Jinyun, with a total campus area of 2,650 mu, of which Jinyun Campus covers an area of 2 100 mu, with a graduate school and 2 1 college (department), 36 undergraduate majors and 25,367 full-time students.
Among them, doctoral and master students are 596 1, undergraduates 18436, and international students are 664. The school has 7 post-doctoral research stations, 7 first-class discipline doctoral degree authorization points and 12 first-class discipline master degree authorization points.
