Shandong Institute of Building Materials Industry, one of the school's predecessors, was founded in August. 1948. It is one of the four subordinate universities established by the former Ministry of Building Materials Industry in China according to geographical distribution. 1July 1998, the school was placed under the management of Shandong province. The former Jinan United University was formerly known as Jinan Teachers College founded by 1978 and Jinan Vocational College founded by 1983. From June 5438 to October 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shandong Institute of Building Materials Industry and Jinan United University merged to form Jinan University. In April of 20001year, the former Jinan Civil Administration School of the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the former Shandong Materials School were merged into Jinan University; From June, 5438 to February, 2007, with the decision of Shandong Provincial People's Government and the approval of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and Ministry of Education, the master's authorized discipline of Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences was merged into Jinan University, and the integration of science and education was implemented.
