Tianjin University of Commerce, formerly known as Tianjin Business School, was founded by the Ministry of Commerce and Tianjin Municipal People's Government on 1980. During the period of 1998, the management system was jointly established by the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay. In 2007, it was renamed Tianjin University of Commerce. The school aims to build a high-level university with distinctive business characteristics, meeting social needs and serving economic and social development.

The school is located at No.409, Guangrong Road, Beichen District, Tianjin, covering an area of nearly 1.340 mu, with a construction area of nearly 490,000 square meters and a total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment of 420 million yuan. At present, the library has 2 109800 books in Chinese and foreign languages, subscribed to more than 200 kinds of Chinese and foreign newspapers 107 databases in Chinese and foreign languages, and 4,883,500 e-books.
