Public English Test System (PETS) is a national English proficiency test system designed and responsible by the test center. As a Sino-British educational exchange and cooperation project, it received technical support from British experts in the design process. The level is divided into pets-1 to 5.

In June, 1999, the examination center held a press conference to formally introduce the PETS examination system to the society. In September of the same year, the PETS 1~4 exam was held in Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Shandong, Henan, Guangdong and other provinces and cities. In 2000, the examination was extended to 15 provinces and cities, and the number of candidates was close. From September, 1999, the relevant units officially replaced the previous WSKEPT exam with PETS-5 exam. China Education Examination Center is using PETS2 and PETS4 test standards to reform the English test in college entrance examination and postgraduate examination. At present, it is planned to replace English test 1 with PETS2 test.

According to the relevant regulations of the test center, since September 2007, students in compulsory education stage are not allowed to take the national English test, and test centers around the country are not allowed to accept students in compulsory education stage to sign up for the national English test [1]. However, those who passed the written or oral examination in the first half of 2007 can register for the first half of 2008, and only those who failed or did not register for the written or oral examination in March 2007. There are no conditions for other candidates to apply for the exam, and they can also apply at different levels.

PETS: Every year, from Wednesday to Sunday in the second week of 1 month, you can apply for Grade I, Grade I, Grade II and Grade III; From Wednesday to Sunday in the second week of July every year, you can apply for level 1, level 2, level 3 and level 4; The specific time shall be subject to the notice of the current year. Please refer to the notice of provincial education examination institutes or self-study offices for the time and method of registration.

PETS-4 has no second Saturday and Sunday in September every year.

PETS-5 is the third Saturday in June every year, and the third Saturday in June 65438+February every year.

Please note that since 2006, the examination time of PETS-4 has been adjusted from the second Saturday and Sunday in March to the second Saturday and Sunday in September every year. The examination time of other levels of the national English proficiency test has not changed.
