Can autistic people be admitted to university?
Yesterday, an autistic child and his mother came to Xiaoxing for consultation. After I introduced the basic situation of Xiaoxing, my mother asked me a question that I couldn't answer: "Teacher, do you think the child can go to college after recovery?" I froze and asked my mother why she thought so far. My mother explained that when she was consulting in a similar institution, she was told that children with moderate or mild autism had no problem in being admitted to ordinary universities after training! I don't know how to explain it to this hopeful mother, not to mention that it is absurd to predict whether an autistic child, even a child with completely normal physique and intelligence, can be admitted to a university at the age of 3 18! Besides, being admitted to a university is not necessarily promising. Now, as we all know, the number of college students is increasing day by day due to the repeated enrollment expansion of colleges and universities, but the national quality has not been greatly improved, but the threshold for employment has been raised. On the other hand, as an institution that trains autistic children, we are different from schools. What we need to do is to train various abilities of autism, including the ability to communicate with others, the ability to take care of themselves, the ability to understand, the ability to distinguish between space and time, the ability to think abstractly, the ability to analyze problems and so on. Most autistic children have good mechanical memory. They can remember many poems or numbers in a short time, but what's the use of what they remember if they can't use them flexibly? Does anyone regard cultivating autistic children as an exam-oriented education? Of course, we hope that every autistic child can go to a normal school and live a happy life like other normal children at school age, but when they don't have this ability, all good hopes can only be fantasies.
