East China University of Political Science and Law is the first batch of higher political science and law institutions established in New China. 1In June, 952, with the approval of the East China Military Commission, the law departments, political departments and social departments of nine universities including St. John's University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Soochow University, Xiamen University, Hujiang University, Anhui University, Shanghai University and Aurora University merged, and East China University of Political Science and Law was established in the former site of St. John's University.

The school has three campuses, Songjiang, Changning and Putuo, covering an area of more than 750,000 square meters. Students1more than 8,000, faculty 1300. There are 2 1 colleges (departments) and1more than 80 scientific research institutions.

The school has the right to award doctoral degrees and master's degrees in law and public administration, master's degrees in applied economics, political science, Marxist theory, sociology, foreign languages and literature, journalism and communication, and master's degrees in law, public administration, finance, social work, translation, journalism and communication, and accounting.

At present, there are 18 second-level authorized disciplines for doctor's degree, 47 second-level authorized disciplines for master's degree, 25 undergraduate majors and 2 post-doctoral mobile stations for law and public administration.
