The six teaching and research sections of composition, polyphony, harmony, musical form and work analysis, orchestration and solfeggio undertake teaching and research in six directions respectively, and are compulsory courses and about eight elective courses for composition and composition technology theory in six directions of composition, harmony, work analysis, polyphony, orchestration and solfeggio. Its teaching content covers the traditional European composition theories and techniques in 18 and 19 centuries, and also involves new techniques, new concepts, new theories and new systems of music creation since the 20th century. It not only contains the creative principles of foreign music works in different periods and the beneficial experience of foreign composers, but also studies and summarizes the creative characteristics of Chinese music works and the successful experience of Chinese composers. Since 1950s, various research directions have made a lot of in-depth and fruitful research on China composers' exploration and pursuit of Chinese style in their own creations, and have continuously combined this achievement with the teaching of various technical theory courses, forming the characteristics of the teaching system of this subject.
1982 the composition and composition technology theory discipline of the central conservatory of music was approved as the master's degree authorization point by the the State Council Academic Degrees Committee; 1988, approved as a doctoral degree authorization point. Among them, Wu Zuqiang and Su Xia are the first batch of doctoral tutors in music subject approved by the Ministry of Education (4 in China).
There are 35 teachers in the Department of Composition, including professors 13, associate professors 17, lecturers/assistants 1 person and trainees 1 person. There are 0/9 doctoral supervisors/kloc (retired 12) and 24 master supervisors. Doctoral degree winners 12, and 2 people enjoy special state allowances. Undergraduate students 128, master students 50, doctoral students 2 1.
The leaders of various disciplines in the Department of Composition have a wide influence at home and abroad, such as Du Mingxin, Guo Wenjing, Ye Xiaogang, Tang Jianping, Duan Pingtai, Yu Suxian, Wu Shikai, Liu, Liu Lin, Yang Ruhuai, Li Jiti, Yao, Guo Weiguo, Huang Shuqing and Gong Xiaoting.
For decades, the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music has trained a large number of outstanding musicians for China and even the world, many of whom have become famous composers at home and abroad. Such as Xin Huguang, Shi Guangnan, Wang Liping, Tan Dun, Guo Wenjing, Ye Xiaogang, Zhou Long,,, Zhang, Jia, Qin, Zhang Lida, Zhao Jiping and Xu Peidong.
