Leeds University, located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, was founded in 1874. It is a member of Russell University Group and one of the Red Brick Universities.
The University of Leeds was formerly known as Yorkshire Polytechnic or Yorkshire College, and later merged with Leeds Medical College to become part of the Federal Victoria University (formerly Manchester University) and the University College of Liverpool (formerly Liverpool University). 1904 was officially granted the status of an independent university by the British Royal Charter, and was renamed the University of Leeds.
