Jilin Normal University has a very long history, which can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty 1906.
At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Qing government gradually carried out the so-called "New Deal" to save the national situation. One of the important measures is to abolish the imperial examination and promote learning. But the development of learning depends on teachers, especially in Jilin Province, which is located in the frontier.
From the thirty-first year of Guangxu (1905) to the thirty-second year of Guangxu (1906), Da Gui, Jilin General, "sent gentry to Japan to study crash normal schools to solve urgent needs", but "training a few is not enough for the majority".
Thus, in the thirty-second year of Guangxu (1906), in May, Jilin Chongwen Academy was established (located in the Hutong of Jiuyuan, Chuanying, Jilin City, south of the Affiliated Hospital of Beihua University), and the first school supervisor (principal) was Huang Shouyan. "The simplified course enrolls 100 students and drops out of school in different classes". The first batch of students with simple subjects,1graduated in the winter of 906, were "sent to various departments as teachers".
