Where is the North Gate Square of Sun Yat-sen University?
The North Gate Square of Sun Yat-sen University is located in front of the North Gate of Sun Yat-sen University, directly reaching the Pearl River, covering an area of 1.7 million square meters. It consists of the memorial archway of Sun Yat-sen University, the emblem of Sun Yat-sen University, the motto of Sun Yat-sen University and the school history. On the memorial archway is the inscription "National Sun Yat-sen University" by Sun Yat-sen. The square not only shows Guangzhou as a famous historical city, but also maintains the characteristics of Sun Yat-sen University's riverside, guarding the spirit and tradition of the university.

The archway of Sun Yat-sen University is the most striking building in the square. It is an antique double-decker archway in China, which was rebuilt according to the style of the ancient archway of Zhong Da University. Historically, due to the water traffic from Zhong Da Wharf to Tianzi Wharf, the main buildings on campus face south, and the north gate is the main school gate. The bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen, the symbol of CUHK, also faces the north, meaning "Northern Expedition". Yixian's main shaft is like a pen extending from the Pearl River, with the nib in the south and the pen gallbladder in the north, which means that the water is continuously absorbed from the Pearl River, that is, elites from all over the world gather in Zhong Da.

Le Kang Park has a central axis running through the north and south, starting from the south gate archway and ending at the north gate archway, which was built in Lingnan University. South along the central axis of The Journey to the West, out of the north gate, to the Pearl River. Whether swimming in the river in the 1960s or 1970s, or strolling or passing by here by boat now, Guangzhou people and middle-aged people are no strangers to the North Gate Archway.

The image tells us that the former Lingnan University has an archway on the north gate levee, which reads the word "Lingnan University". 1952, after the adjustment of departments, Sun Yat-sen University moved to Le Kang Park, and the characters on the north gate archway were changed to "Sun Yat-sen University" by Mao Zedong calligraphy collection. During the Cultural Revolution, the archway tilted and collapsed. It was not until 200 1 that the North Gate Plaza of Zhong Da University was built with the investment of the Guangzhou Municipal Government. In addition to the towering archway of Sun Yat-sen University, Zhong Da University's emblem, motto, history and other elements were added, which protected the spirit and tradition of the university while maintaining the riverside pattern of the university.

Speaking of this archway, it has been rebuilt in the same pattern. The original archway of Sun Yat-sen University is located on the slope of Wushan Road, which was built at 1935. It not only combines the style of western architecture, but also has the traditional elements of China in detail decoration. On the forehead of the archway, the six characters of "National Sun Yat-sen University" written by President Zou Lu were originally scarlet letters. After the adjustment of the department to move the stone tablet out of the university, the big word on the forehead was changed to Mao Zedong's calligraphy "Serving the People", which has been preserved to this day. At present, CUHK North Gate Archway has restored the name of President Zou Lu in calligraphy, which shows the self-restraint and tolerance of South China No.1 University.
