1994 was renamed Harbin Engineering University (Harbin Engineering). The school has been affiliated to the Sixth Ministry of Machinery Industry, China Shipbuilding Corporation and the National Defense Science, Technology and Industry Committee, and now it is affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In 2007, it became a university jointly established by the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the Ministry of Education, the People's Government of Heilongjiang Province and the Navy. 20 19 became a university jointly established by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Education, Heilongjiang Provincial People's Government and Harbin Municipal People's Government.
The school is one of the first units that have the right to award doctoral and master's degrees. 1996 was identified as the first batch of "2 1 1 project" key construction universities. In 2002, the Graduate School was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. 20 1 1 was identified as the national dominant discipline innovation platform project to build universities. Adhering to the school-running strategy of "three seas and one nuclear power" (shipbuilding industry, naval equipment, marine development and nuclear energy application), the school has made important contributions to China's shipbuilding industry, nuclear industry, national defense modernization and economic and social development, and has become a high-level research university in the field of marine nuclear power in China.
