The School of Mathematics and Statistics was formerly the Department of Mathematics and Science, School of Continuing Education, Hubei Normal University (1951); 1954 Hubei Normal University was changed to Hubei Normal University to set up mathematics.

1957 Hubei Normal University merged with Wuhan Normal University to establish a new mathematics discipline; 1958, Wuhan Normal University was established, and the Department of Mathematics was established; 1984 Wuhan Normal University was restructured into Hubei University, and a new department of mathematics was established. 1992 Hubei university established computer department, 1996 was composed of mathematics department, computer department, computing center and network center, and established the School of Mathematics and Computer.

In 2000, the Department of Information and Computing Science was newly established. 200 1, the network center is placed under the management of the principal's office. On September 26th, 20 13, it was renamed as College of Mathematics and Statistics. At present, the School of Mathematics and Statistics includes: Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Department of Information and Computing Science, Institute of Mathematics and other teaching and research units.
