Anhui Normal University is the earliest institution of higher learning in Anhui. The school is located in Wuhu, a state-level open city with the reputation of "Huizhou charm and city of thousands of lakes". It is close to the vast Yangtze River, next to Lingxiu Zheshan Mountain. It is a provincial key university that combines the natural beauty of Jiangnan and the humanistic spirit of Anhui.

On the basis of Jingfu Academy in Qing Dynasty at the end of 19 and Anhui University Hall established at the beginning of the 20th century, Anhui University, the predecessor of the school, was founded in Anqing City, Anhui Province on 1928. 1946, the provincial Anhui University was renamed as the National Anhui University, which was once known as "in the Beijing-Shanghai region, second only to Shanghai Tongji University". From 65438 to 0949, National Anhui University moved to Wuhu and merged with Anhui University at that time to form the new Anhui University. From 1950 to 1952, some departments of the school were merged into Nanjing University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University and East China University of Political Science and Law, and Anhui Normal University was merged into our school on 1952. 1954 Anhui university teachers college and agricultural college were established respectively, and the headquarters was renamed Anhui teachers college. 1958, Anhui Provincial Party Committee decided to move some liberal arts departments (disciplines) of Anhui Normal University to Hefei to establish Hefei Normal University. At the same time, some teachers and students of physics department moved to the newly-built Hefei College (later renamed Anhui University). 1960, Anhui Normal University was renamed as Southern Anhui University, and Comrade Liu Shaoqi wrote the name of the school. 1968, Weinan College was renamed Anhui University of Workers and Peasants. 1970 Hefei Normal University was cancelled, and most departments (departments) moved back to Anhui University of Workers and Peasants. 1972, approved by the State Council, the school was officially named Anhui Normal University, and Comrade Guo Moruo wrote the name of the school. In 2005, Wuhu Normal University was merged into Anhui Normal University.
