Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, located in Guangzhou, is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, state administration of traditional chinese medicine and Guangdong Provincial People's Government, a national "double-class" university, a high-level university construction unit in Guangdong Province, and a university under the "2 1 1 project" in Guangdong Province.

The Ministry of Education is the first batch of pilot universities of "Excellent Doctor (Chinese Medicine) Education and Training Plan" and "Pilot Reform of Top-notch Innovative Talents Mode of Chinese Medicine", and the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding units in China, with the qualification of exemption from examination recommended by master's students.

It has successively been selected into two first-class and national key disciplines of Chinese medicine universities, namely, the National Project of Building High-level University Postgraduates, the National Key Discipline with Characteristics, the Clinical Pharmacology Research Base of the Ministry of Health, the National Training Base of Chinese Medicine Teachers, the National College Students' Cultural Quality Education Base, the Scholarship Receiving Institution of China Government for Overseas Students, and the National Demonstration University for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform.

The foundation of the school is Guangdong College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was founded in 1924. Guangzhou College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established on 1956 with the approval of the State Council, and it is one of the first four institutions of higher learning of traditional Chinese medicine in New China. 1995 was renamed with the approval of the State Education Commission.

Originally under the leadership of the Ministry of Health and state administration of traditional chinese medicine, it was transferred to the central and local governments in 2000, and was mainly managed by Guangdong Province.

As of April 2023, the school has two campuses, University Town and Sanyuanli, with a total area of 1.205 mu. There are 15 secondary colleges, 18 independent scientific research institutions, 3 directly affiliated hospitals and 24 undergraduate majors.
