Suzhou Institute of Science and Technology was established on 200 1 by the merger of Suzhou Urban Construction Environmental Protection College of the Ministry of Construction (State Environmental Protection Administration) and Suzhou Railway Teachers College of the Ministry of Railways. Its predecessor was Suzhou Urban Construction College and Suzhou Railway Teachers College, which was founded in 1960. Suzhou Institute of Science and Technology has three campuses: Headquarters (Jiangfeng), Tian Ping and Shihu. The headquarters is close to the urban area, and the other two are far from the urban area, but both of them have direct buses, which is quite convenient. There are undergraduate majors in this department (but our school is mainly two schools, so this major is relatively small). Shihu campus is full of undergraduate majors, but there are more liberal arts, and this department is more scientific. Tian Ping campus is mainly the third major. The school is a comprehensive research university with the main characteristics of science, engineering, agriculture, law, literature, history, philosophy, teaching, economics, management and art. The school's architecture major is quite famous.
Southwest Petroleum University is the second petroleum undergraduate college established in New China. It is a teaching and research university funded by the central and local governments and mainly managed by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government.
