Recently, the high-profile West Lake University was officially approved by the Ministry of Education, which became a milestone in the process of building a new non-profit research university in China. This not only marks that West Lake University has entered a new stage of all-round construction and development, but also opens a new chapter in the diversification of higher education in China.

Based on the four institutes of science, cutting-edge technology, biology and basic medicine of West Lake Advanced Research Institute, a college of science, engineering and life sciences (including biology and basic medicine) was established, giving priority to the formation of three disciplines: science, engineering and medicine. 20 19 doctoral students who passed the "application-assessment" system for the first time have entered the West Lake Institute of Advanced Studies, and their majors include mathematics, physics, biology, computer science and technology, and basic medicine.
