Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong is the second established university in Hong Kong and one of the eight higher education institutions in Hong Kong funded by the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong. Cuhk consists of Xinya College (established in 1949), Chongji College (established in 195 1) and United College (established in 1956), and later Shaw College was established in 1986. It is the only university in Hong Kong that implements college federalism. As the leading institution of higher learning in Hong Kong and even Asia and the main position of contemporary Neo-Confucianism, CUHK has gathered a large number of academic masters such as Qian Mu, Tang Junyi, Mou Zongsan, Lin Yutang, Lao Si Guang, Liu Zhenhua, Tsung i Jao, Yu Guangzhong, Yang Zhenning and Gao Kun, and trained outstanding talents from all walks of life represented by historian Yu Yingshi, mathematician Qiu Chengtong and banker Zheng Haiquan.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong currently has eight faculties: Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Social Sciences and Faculty of Law.
