Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is located in Beijing. It is a national key university with Chinese medicine characteristics directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It was jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the National Health and Wellness Commission, state administration of traditional chinese medicine and Beijing. It is a national "double-class" construction university.

Founded in 1956 and formerly known as Beijing College of Chinese Medicine, the school is the earliest approved institution of higher learning of Chinese medicine in the State Council. 1960, the school was identified as a national key university by the central government; 1993, the school was renamed Beijing University of Chinese Medicine; In 2000, the school merged with Beijing Institute of Acupuncture and Orthopaedics to form a new Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.

The school has three campuses, namely Heping Street, Wangjing and Liangxiang, covering an area of/kloc-0.083 million square meters.
