A Brief Introduction to University of Toronto English
The University of Toronto is a public research university located in Toronto, Ontario, which is located around queens park. It was established as King's College by royal charter on 1827, and it is the first institution of higher learning in Canada. Originally controlled by the Church of England, the university adopted its current name on 1850 after becoming a secular institution. As a collegiate university, it is composed of 12 colleges with different characteristics and histories, and each college maintains considerable autonomy in financial and institutional affairs.

Academically, the University of Toronto is famous for its influential sports and courses in literary criticism and communication theory, collectively known as the Toronto School. The university is the birthplace of insulin and stem cell research, the location of the first practical electron microscope, the development location of multi-touch technology, the location where Cygnus X- 1 was identified as a black hole, and the location of NP completeness theory. Its annual research funding far exceeds that of any Canadian university. It is one of the two members of association of american universities located outside the United States.
