Huaqiao University was founded in Quanzhou, Fujian, a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. It is the first institution of higher learning named "Overseas Chinese" in China. 1997, the former Jimei Overseas Chinese Tutorial School located in Jimei School Village, Xiamen, Fujian Province was merged into Huaqiao University and renamed as the Chinese College of Huaqiao University. In 2003, the school was rated as excellent in the first batch of undergraduate teaching level evaluation by the Ministry of Education. In 2006, Xiamen Campus officially opened. On 20 17, the school was selected as a "double-class" construction university in Fujian Province.
