Food science and engineering is an undergraduate major in Chinese universities. The goal of this major is to cultivate comprehensive senior scientific and technological talents who master the basic theory of food science and the scientific principles and application skills of food processing and preservation, have the ability to analyze, detect, control and scientifically evaluate food ingredients and food quality, and can engage in food production, product quality assurance, engineering design, research and development of new technologies and new products, teaching, commodity inspection, trade and management of commodities and technologies.

Food science and engineering mainly study the basic knowledge and skills of chemistry, biology, food engineering and food technology, and carry out food production technology management, product development, engineering design, quality control and scientific research in the food field. For example: the design of yogurt fermentation technology, the processing and production of canned food, the research of food nutritional components, the supervision and inspection of food quality, etc.

Food microbiology, food biochemistry, food nutrition, food safety, food engineering principles, food chemistry, food analysis, fruit and vegetable processing and storage, grain and oil processing technology, animal products processing technology, fermented food technology, food machinery and equipment, food factory design and environmental protection.

After graduation, students can engage in scientific research, product development, quality control, management and marketing in food-related industries such as universities, research institutes and food enterprises.
