Southwest University for Nationalities is a public full-time ordinary institution of higher learning directly under the central ministries. It is headed by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and established by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the Chengdu Municipal People's Government.
