Co-option rules:
Academician of China Academy of Sciences is co-elected every two years. Every co-election, academician candidates should be recommended first, and then selected by the division. There are two ways to recommend candidates: academician recommendation and centralized primary selection department recommendation, and I will not accept my application.
Each academician can recommend up to 2 candidates. When co-opted in 2003, candidates over the age of 65 were required to be recommended by six or more academicians, and at least four academicians were from the same department.
The department has two rounds of evaluation. The first round produces preliminary candidates, and the second round produces formal candidates. Since 2003, the first round of assessment has all adopted exchange assessment. The judges independently judge and exercise the right to vote by reading the relevant materials of the recommended person.
Then there is the election, in which the standing committees of various departments organize academicians of their own departments to vote by secret ballot on the official candidates of their own departments, and the candidates who get more than half of the votes of voters will be co-opted according to the number of places to be elected by their own departments.
Elected in turn according to the approved number of votes until the quota is full. If the number of votes obtained is the same and exceeds the number of co-opted places, those with the same number of votes will vote again, which is limited to the number of co-opted places, and the one with the most votes will be elected.
