Wulidun overpass is the first viaduct in Hefei, and its 1995 double connection has also attracted the attention of many experts. Jiang, director of the Department of Architecture of Anhui Vocational and Technical College of Architecture, believes that the viaduct not only shows the new image of Hefei, but also marks that the traffic in Hefei will enter the era of "three-dimensional traffic" from "plane traffic".

Jiang believes that the form of Hefei's past urban development is a "sector page", and the whole city is divided into three parts: east, southeast and north. In the case that the city is small in scale and the traffic demand is not very strong, this urban form is very conducive to urban development. However, when the city develops to a certain scale, this "fan-shaped" urban form can no longer meet the needs of urban development, and traffic has become a bottleneck restricting urban development.

With the rapid economic development in the southwest of Hefei, Hefei has close ties with the counties and cities in the southwest, including Feixi, Tongcheng and Anqing. The traffic pressure on Jinzhai Road, Hezuo Huanan Road and Changjiang Middle Road is increasing, and the pavement is seriously damaged, which has huge traffic hidden dangers. The pace of urban development has also been greatly restricted. The first ring road, the second ring road and even more ring roads can't keep up with the development of Hefei, and the plane traffic is in a backward state. The "two-ring and nine-shot" traffic network pattern that Hefei has always adopted can no longer meet the expansion of the city, especially the expansion of external groups such as Feixi Shangpai, Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone and University Town, which makes it more and more urgent to connect the inside and outside of the city and directly open up a "road".

On the basis that the existing roads are not enough to undertake the logistics function of urban rapid distribution, Wulidun overpass is undoubtedly a pioneering work in advance. Wulidun overpass is the first real expressway in the history of urban construction in Hefei. After completion, it will greatly shorten the travel time of Hefei Southbound Corridor and improve the traffic carrying capacity of Southbound Corridor. It is a milestone leap in the history of Hefei road traffic architecture.

Jiang has repeatedly stressed that if a city can't gather people and logistics at the fastest speed, there will be many problems, the city will have no vitality and the stamina for urban development will be insufficient. Although air traffic such as Jintun overpass and Meitun overpass has alleviated the traffic to a certain extent, its function is only limited to a certain point. After the Wulidun overpass is double-linked, one bridge flies, which not only solves the traffic problem of Changjiang Road, but also considers the urban traffic pattern of Hefei as a whole. Wulidun overpass is not only the first viaduct in Hefei, but also a symbol of the transformation from plane traffic to three-dimensional traffic in Hefei.

Wulidun overpass is the "air expressway" with the largest investment in Hefei and even Anhui Province. The viaduct will soon be double-connected, and the light rail and subway in Hefei will also be put on the agenda. The future of urban traffic is bright, and Wulidun overpass has set up a new pattern of Hefei's three-dimensional traffic network. Jiang said that rail transit is far superior to traditional buses and cars in terms of volume, speed and operation mode. The transportation capacity of subway is 7- 10 times larger than that of ground bus, and it can transport 40,000-60,000 passengers per hour in one direction, and 20,000-30,000 passengers in light rail. As Hefei, it is an indisputable fact that the traffic pressure on ground roads is getting more and more severe. Traffic only develops in two directions, air and underground, elevated and rail transit are the fundamental ways to solve this problem.
