Excuse me, how to prepare for the graduate students who apply for the political science theory of Sun Yat-sen University?
First, the initial test.

1. The difficulty of the initial test.

I can tell you responsibly that political science, as an unpopular major, is not difficult to take the postgraduate entrance examination in CUHK. Generally speaking, 30 to 40 people take the exam, and about 5 people are admitted. The passing line of English was marked at 50 points in previous years, so every child who wants to take the political science exam should have confidence. But the enrollment scale of political science will be reduced in the future. After all, it is a basic subject, so there is no need to recruit so many people. It is entirely possible to recruit only two or three students a year. (The recruitment ratio can be found on CUHK.)

2. Preliminary reference books

Since last year, CUHK no longer provides bibliography, but only provides examination scope, but there is really no need to worry about this. Generally, review according to the previous bibliography. I am here to tell you some important and interesting reference books.

(1) political science reference book

Introduction to Political Science, Sun Yat-sen University Press, edited by Xiao Bin. (Xiao, editor-in-chief, collecting books published by political science teachers in the State Council is definitely a top priority. Can be used as a core reference book. I didn't know there was this book when I took the postgraduate entrance examination, but I heard from my brother that some of CUHK's partial problems can be found in this book. Haha, look for the answer as soon as you hear it. I guess you are happy. )

Political Science, Huaxia Publishing House (translated). A classic foreign political science textbook, a reference book for postgraduate entrance examination in 2009, looks very comfortable. This book is also a reference book of Peking University. This was my core reference book at that time. )

Important Issues in Political Science, Huaxia Publishing House (translated). Another classic of foreign political science textbooks, 09 reference book for postgraduate entrance examination, is problem-oriented, fascinating and quite interesting. I have no time to read it anymore. It is also a reference book of Guo Guan College of Peking University. )

The above three books can be used as basic textbooks of political science, with high quality. The basic knowledge points of political science are all in them, and your knowledge skeleton can be built according to these basic textbooks.

Handbook of New Politics, Sanlian Bookstore. Our reference book at that time was Introduction to Frontier Research of Foreign Political Science, all written by foreign Daniel. But the translation is very general and torturous. At that time, I only took one look and gave up. As a result, I got a copy of Downes' Theory of Democratic Economy, and I was speechless on the spot. Later, I learned that it was in the new manual. Therefore, in this book, remember important people and theories, but there is no need to delve into others. )

(2) History of political thought

History of China's political thought. CUHK gave me a reference book, but as soon as I saw it was semi-classical, I gave up decisively. I used the textbooks of Liu Zehua and Cao Deben. )

History of political theory, Sabine. CUHK's reference book, but I didn't read it when I couldn't find it. I used the History of Western Political Thought, supplemented by Ma's textbook. )

I don't think we should pay too much attention to the textbooks on the history of political thought. Be sure to master the ideas of several people and schools, and whoever uses the textbooks is similar. However, the topic of the exam may not ask you what a certain idea is, but it will often be a comparison between two ideas, or a comparison between China and the West. You have to find other materials to supplement this. Go to the bookshelf of the history of political thought in the library, and there will be some good auxiliary books. But the key is how well you grasp every idea.

(3) Research methods of political science

Methodology of social science. I just haven't finished reading that book that makes people collapse. )

Theory and method of political science

A guide to political science research methods

(4) Other interesting books

If you just recite the basic reference books, you have to take the political science exam at CUHK University, which is unrealistic. This is definitely not a place where backrest knowledge can come in. It is absolutely necessary to increase your knowledge, otherwise you will be asked during the second interview. Here are some posts recommended, some of which were left by CUHK's brothers and sisters to give back to future generations. Thank them first. Ha ha.

Of course, for these "extra-curricular books", my suggestion is to read the abstract, conclusion and table of contents to know the main contents and logic of the books. Although I read some interesting books word for word, they are actually good relaxation books. But the focus is still on reference books.

/doulist/3 17494/ Jelly Lin's sister's book list, which also contains Xiao Bin's class list.

Pan Wei's The Rule of Law and Democracy and Superstition is highly recommended. CUHK's teachers may have different views on this book. Ha ha.

Ding Xueliang, the debate about the China model. At that time, Xiao Lao sent a copy to everyone in our class, haha.

Pan Yi, a female worker in China, is a very good book, which is worth reading word by word.

Gordon's Controlling the Country-A History of Western Constitutionalism shows that constitutionalism can promote the development of the country more than elections (I remember this).

He Huaihong's Elective Society and Its End Sanlian Bookstore

Michio Morishima, why did Japan "succeed"?

Wu Daying, Shen Yunfang, Comparative Study of Western Government Systems (monograph on comparative study of Chinese and foreign systems)

Of course, the recommended bibliography of introduction to political science after class can also be searched, but if it is too difficult, forget it, and the "extracurricular books" have to be interesting by themselves.

Review the first test.

A younger brother asked me how to review, and I really didn't know how to answer. We have tried for so many years, and everyone has their own methods. Here are only some tips, and the key to the postgraduate review is to take it out on your own.

(1) The real question is the direction.

The real questions of CUHK can be found on CUHK Admissions Online, and the real questions are your review direction. By the end of the summer vacation, I think you should have read the general bibliography and have your own knowledge structure, which is more relaxed for people majoring in political science. After the summer vacation, you should have a direction to focus on. The real problem is your direction.

After downloading the real questions at that time, I checked which chapters were all right against the catalogue of political science. Now you can do this work against the introduction to political science. Mark the places that are questioned in the catalogue. After reading the five-year real questions, you will intuitively see which knowledge points are often tested. You should at least master all the knowledge points you have tested.

(2) Take notes

I usually take notes directly in the book, and summarize the main ideas of each chapter directly in the book when I look at the history of ideas. This is very helpful for memory. Of course, everyone's method is different.

The basic situation of CUHK politics:

1 academic resources

The academic resources of CUHK political science are definitely the first in South China, but if they are put in the whole country, they are not top. Fudan University in Peking University is top-notch, and its academic resources are definitely one or two grades better than those in China. See who they can invite to give a lecture. However, CUHK has its own characteristics, that is, more empirical types and less theoretical types. It can be said that CUHK's political science is the most in line with western political science, and its proximity to Hong Kong also gives CUHK a great advantage in political science.

Besides, CUHK is the freest university in China, and many academic conferences can be held in CUHK instead of Beijing. Last time, CUHK held a national academic conference on political science. Professor Daniel from Beijing said that only CUHK can hold such a meeting.

2. Teachers

CUHK's political science teacher is really not as good as Peking University Fudan, much worse, at least in terms of reputation. But there are many little-known but extremely knowledgeable teachers here, and most of the well-known professors are from the front line of scientific research. In addition, some teachers here have come back from abroad and have a good relationship with foreign countries. If they are determined to go abroad for further study, there are still some connections here. Of course, it is important to rely on your own achievements. It is also very important that the Special Committee is very United and will not engage in mountainism. Teachers have a good relationship and enjoy cooperation. Moreover, there is an unwritten good rule in CUHK that doctors in our school cannot teach in our school, thus avoiding the danger of avalanche, which is one of the reasons why CUHK has made continuous scientific research achievements in recent years. Most young teachers of political science come from Hongkong, Taiwan Province Province or Peking University, and they have great potential. However, as a doctoral brother said, CUHK's political science is a rising star in Ran Ran, but it is still far away. Ha ha.

Step 3 hire

Political science is an unpopular major and a basic subject, so it is really difficult to find a job. For doctoral students, CUHK University has two places for postgraduate and doctoral students in political science every year, but generally no one applies because everyone wants to go to Hong Kong, Britain or the United States. But to be fair, it is difficult to get the full prize, and it is not easy to get a Ph.D. from Peking University, but if you don't get a Ph.D. from a good school, it will be difficult to teach in a good university in the future. Of course, CUHK's Ph.D. is not bad either, but it is difficult to teach in a first-tier university.

Tell me about the employment situation of our major this year. One goes to Hong Kong to study Chinese, which is better. If you want to find a job, you will go to Tencent, Netease, China News Service, Shenzhen Construction Bank, Caesar and Wang Zhigang's studio. You will know that these units are not bad. There are also people who go to the stock market. One was admitted to the civil service and the other was admitted to Selected Graduates. It can be said that this year's employment is good, but this does not mean that political science employment is easy, but the overall quality of the group of people in this year's class is really good, and I am under great pressure here. In the last session, some people went to Du Nan as commentators, some went to the personnel department of CUHK, some went to the MTR, and some were civil servants, but most of them were postponed because they wanted to study abroad.

Let's just say it's really not easy to get a job as a political science major. We all worked hard to find it, and in the end, because the company wanted economic management, we were stuck in the major many times. You can go to the media if it is more appropriate, but it is still difficult to enter these big bull media in the south. Employment is the most important issue for everyone. I want to say that if you can find a good job, you should carefully consider whether you want to take the postgraduate entrance examination. But if you think it is more difficult for you to find a job without taking the postgraduate entrance examination, I have nothing to say. Of course, many students come here with their ideals every year, so the political science major of CUHK University absolutely welcomes you, and coming to CUHK will never let you down. You can use Xiao Lao's words to encourage everyone. He said, "just study hard for me. Don't worry about finding a job. Come to me if you can't find a job.
