With the joint efforts of the legal profession for many years, the International Law School has become the most comprehensive international law research team in China, with first-class domestic comprehensive international law research strength and considerable international competitiveness. As one of the main bases of international law research in China, the faculty of international law school has the characteristics of complete disciplines, complete directions, reasonable academic relations and high degree of internationalization. Due to its outstanding comprehensive strength, the discipline of international law of France University was awarded as the key discipline of the Ministry of Justice in 1998 and as the key discipline of Beijing in 2002.
All the teachers in this college undertake the teaching tasks of undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students at different levels. Courses include public international law, private international law, introduction to international economic law, international trade law, international investment law, international intellectual property law, maritime law, international financial law, international tax law, EU law, WTO topics, international law case analysis, law of the sea, international human rights law, classic works and cases of international law and many other courses.
The undergraduate course of this college was originally a major in international economic law, but it was changed to a major in law after the merger of 1999 national majors. Graduate students originally had three majors: public international law, private international law and international economic law. After the merger, it became an international law major, including three research directions: public international law, private international law and international economic law. In addition to the above three directions, doctoral students also include directions such as law of the sea and military law.
In terms of student training, college teachers love the cause of law education, have rich teaching experience, and have achieved fruitful results in the reform and research of teaching content and teaching methods. Over the years, the college has trained more than 3,000 graduates of different levels, such as undergraduates, master students and doctoral students. In 2002, the college set up a teaching evaluation committee, which is responsible for supervising and inspecting the teaching reform and its effect of the teachers in the college and making a fair evaluation of the teachers' teaching achievements every academic year. The evaluation result is one of the important bases for selecting excellent teachers at the end of the year. The evaluation committee is composed of outstanding teachers from various research institutes.
Many teachers in the college have won honorary titles such as national outstanding teachers, national hero model of judicial administrative system, outstanding teachers in Beijing, outstanding young backbone teachers in Beijing universities, and academic leaders in Beijing. Their works have successively won the first prize of excellent teaching materials of the State Education Commission, the outstanding achievement award of teenagers of the State Education Commission, the first prize of outstanding achievements in humanities and social sciences research in institutions of higher learning of the State Education Commission, and the outstanding achievement award of philosophy and social sciences in Beijing. Entrusted by the relevant state organs, the Institute has drafted, organized or participated in the drafting of many laws and regulations, undertaken and completed many national and provincial scientific research projects, and published dozens of monographs and hundreds of papers. Many experts and professors in the institute hold important positions in national academic organizations, and also serve as expert consultants in legislative, judicial and administrative organs at all levels. In terms of discipline construction, in 2002, the discipline of international law in our college completed the declaration of key disciplines in Beijing and successfully obtained the status of key disciplines in Beijing. At the request of Beijing, in 2003, the college further completed the declaration of discipline status and advantages, discipline status, discipline direction, landmark achievements, personnel training, discipline vision and recent planning. In order to cooperate with the application of the first-level discipline doctoral program in the school, the basic situation of teachers and the training of students in the school were carefully checked, and relevant documents were formulated.
In 2002, the college completed the discipline construction planning of three research institutes, from the original three teaching and research sections to the current three research institutes. Under the deployment of the institute, the three institutes completed the archives construction of the institute, including personnel, studying abroad, scientific research, and winning prizes. This paper puts forward the discipline construction goal and specific planning of the institute, and summarizes the relevant information as the basis of the discipline construction planning of the institute.
In terms of student work, actively promote students' scientific research activities and create a good scientific research atmosphere in international law schools. In order to promote students' scientific research activities, the institute has taken the following positive measures: among graduate students and undergraduates, it has further strengthened the establishment of students' academic organizations, held academic seminars regularly, required students to actively participate, and set up appropriate awards to reward outstanding papers, thus forming a fashion of advocating academic research. Every semester, well-known experts outside the school are invited to give lectures to students, especially lectures on frontier issues of law, so as to enhance students' understanding of frontier disciplines. In cooperation with the British law firm FRESHFIELDS BRUCKHAUS DERINGER, the College held three promotion activities of the Best Thesis Award for Asian Law Students. The activities show that the students of this college are particularly keen to participate in such activities and have won many awards.
In order to promote students to go global, the Institute actively organizes graduate students and undergraduates to participate in the mock trial international commercial arbitration competition organized by the International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, the Jessup Cup international law mock trial competition organized by the American International Law Students Association and the space law mock arbitration court competition organized by the International Space Law Association. All the above competitions are held once a year, and the competition language is English. These activities provide a good opportunity to broaden students' horizons, increase their talents and improve their English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
In terms of study, the college actively recommends students to study for degrees in famous foreign law schools. At present, the college has more than 100 international students.
In terms of running schools for foreign students, the college is committed to the teaching of postgraduate courses and self-taught remedial classes for law majors. It has successively opened more than 20 postgraduate courses in international law, economic law, civil and commercial law, constitutional law and administrative law, and enrolled more than 600 students in the self-taught remedial classes in 2004. The college will continue to work hard in the field of non-academic legal education, expand cooperation, and strive to contribute to the country's rule of law construction.
At present, according to the Tenth Five-Year Plan and the Tenth Five-Year Action Plan, the College will actively participate in the trend of higher education reform in China, continue to deepen the reform, accelerate the development, continuously enhance the comprehensive strength of the College, and strive to cultivate compound modern legal talents.
