The predecessor of the Department of Materials Science of Fudan University is the Institute of Materials Science. In order to adapt to the development of national economy in 1980s, Fudan University organized the staffing of physics department and chemistry department. It is one of the earliest comprehensive universities in China to offer engineering materials. 1986 In March, the Department of Materials Science was formally established. 1990165438+1October, the teaching and research section of physical electronics was transferred from the physics department to the materials department, and in June 1993, the polymer teaching and research section was separated from the materials department to form the polymer department.

After more than 20 years' development, there are three majors in undergraduate education of the Department of Materials Science: Material Physics, Material Chemistry, Electronic Science and Technology. Postgraduate education consists of four master's programs in materials physics and chemistry, physical electronics, materials science and information functional materials and devices, two doctoral programs in materials physics and chemistry and physical electronics, and master's programs in materials engineering. It also has two first-class postdoctoral mobile stations, namely "Material Science and Engineering" and "Electronic Science and Technology". Among them, "Electronic Science and Technology" was selected as a national key discipline in 2007, and "Material Physics and Chemistry" was selected as a Shanghai key discipline and a national key discipline (cultivation) in 2007. At present, there are more than 300 undergraduates, graduate students 1 10 and 50 doctoral students.

There are 76 faculty members in the Department of Materials Science, including 20 professors (15 doctoral supervisors), 24 associate professors (including associate professors and senior engineers), and 24 lecturers, engineers and experimenters. Among the teachers, 4 1 person received doctoral degrees, including 2 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, 2 leading talents in Shanghai, 6 outstanding academic leaders in Shanghai, 6 trans-century talents from the Ministry of Education, 2 Shuguang scholars in Shanghai, 3 seven-star talents in Shanghai and 3 talents in Pujiang, Shanghai. At the same time, Academician Sun and Academician Chu Junhao are hired as part-time professors in our department, and Uwe Hartmann of the University of Salle in Germany is honorary professor of Fudan University.

There are specialized teaching and key scientific research institutions such as Materials Physics Teaching and Research Section, Materials Chemistry Teaching and Research Section, Physical Electronics Teaching and Research Section, National Microelectronic Materials and Components Microscopic Analysis Center, Advanced Coating Engineering Research Center of Ministry of Education, Nanotechnology Development Research Center of Fudan University, and Optical Fiber Research Center of Fudan University. It has a number of world-class scientific research equipment such as SIMS, TOF-SIMS, FIB, XPS, TEM, SEM, SAM, STM, ic, AAS, LC, FTIR, GPC, OCA 15, and advanced instruments and equipment with a value of more than 70 million yuan, such as optical measuring instrument for thin films and microstructures and surface contact angle analysis system.

According to the needs of social and economic development of China and Shanghai, the Department of Materials Science, combined with the characteristics of Fudan University, strives to carry out the design, preparation, structure-activity relationship research and application research and development of materials and devices from three aspects: "uniqueness, novelty and functionality". At present, the main research directions are: micro (optical) electronic materials and devices, micro-analysis technology and application research, electronic packaging materials and technologies, hydrogen energy materials and devices, nano-electronics and molecular electronics, vacuum film physics and technology, electro-optic and information display, optical fiber application technology, functional coatings, organic-inorganic nano-hybrid materials, intelligent polymer materials and crystalline polymers, biomedical materials, composite materials and so on.

In the past five years, the department has undertaken and completed a number of major key projects, including "973" and "863", the National Natural Science Foundation, the General Armament Department, the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the Ministry of Education and Shanghai. More than 300 projects have been entrusted by enterprises and institutions, and the accumulated scientific research funds have reached1100000 yuan.

A large number of scientific research achievements of our department have been successfully applied to national semiconductors, integrated circuits, chip design and microelectronic packaging, national defense industry, automobile industry, construction industry, petrochemical industry, electric power industry and so on. It has made important contributions to national economic construction and national defense security. In recent years, it has won national, provincial and municipal awards, including the second prize of the National Natural Science Award 1, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award 1, the first prize of the Ministry of Education, and the second prize of the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award.

The Department of Materials Science is in close contact with its counterparts at home and abroad and has active academic exchanges. We have close ties with many world-renowned scientific research institutions, such as Georgia Institute of Technology (Georg.Tech.), University of Maryland (Maryland U), National Bureau of Standards and Technology (NIST), Max Planck Colloid Institute in Germany, and Coating Research Center of Eastern Michigan University in the United States. Every year, many teachers are invited to give lectures abroad, engage in postdoctoral research and become visiting scholars. At the same time, a certain number of undergraduates go to foreign universities for courses and short-term visits. With Motorola, Intel, Philips, Samsung, Panasonic, Lucent, DuPont, Henkel, ICI, GE, National Starch, BASF and many other well-known enterprises at home and abroad, we have conducted fruitful cooperative research and project development. Many well-known foreign institutions and companies have set up scholarships in this department.

The interdisciplinary advantages and solid scientific research foundation provide excellent educational environment, rich academic atmosphere, high-level tutors and advanced experimental equipment for the Department of Materials Science, and create conditions for the training of talents in our department. The student affairs department has been an advanced unit of the school for many years, providing students with broad opportunities for all-round development. At the same time, it has 2 excellent counselors in Shanghai and 3 top ten counselors in the school. Undergraduate students 1 time won the title of "National Advanced Class Collective" and the honorary title of "Shanghai Advanced Collective" for 5 times. The summer social practice and volunteer activities organized by the Youth League Association have been commended by the Youth League Central Committee for many times and awarded by five municipal awards.

Students majoring in materials science have the characteristics of wide knowledge and strong practical ability, and are innovative and compound talents urgently needed by the society. The employment rate has always been among the best in our school. In addition to entering universities and scientific research institutions at home and abroad for further study or engaging in teaching, scientific research and development, most graduates enter internationally renowned multinational companies or key domestic enterprises to engage in research and development or management of high-tech industries.
