Training objectives: This major trains senior engineering and technical personnel with all-round development in morality, intelligence and physique, with professional knowledge of composite materials and engineering, who can engage in scientific research, technology development, process equipment design or related production management in the fields of composite material design, preparation and molding.
Training features: This major relies on Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Tribology of Materials, Jiangsu Research Center of Aluminum Matrix Composite Engineering Technology, and Key Laboratory of Metal Matrix Composite and Functional Materials in Mechanical Industry. Mainly from the basic theory of material physics and chemistry, the design, composition, structure and performance of composite materials, the preparation and molding technology of composite materials, etc., so that students can engage in scientific research, technology development, process and equipment design, production and management of composite materials, especially metal-based composite materials.
Main professional courses: engineering mechanics, electrical and electronics, materials science foundation, material composite principle, material surface and interface, modern testing method of materials, composite material structure design and composite material technology.
Opportunities for further study: all postdoctoral mobile stations of materials science and engineering. Material science is a key discipline in Jiangsu province, with five master's programs in material science, material processing engineering, material physical chemistry, iron and steel metallurgy and nonferrous metallurgy, and two master's programs in material engineering and metallurgical engineering. At present, there are 18 doctoral supervisors in this discipline.
Employment trend: In order to meet the needs of national economic and social development, Jiangsu University's composite materials and engineering major was approved for construction in 2006, and enrollment began in 2007. The rapid development of China's economy, the launch of major national projects such as the moon landing program and the manufacture of large aircraft will make composite materials play an extremely important role. Graduates of this major are expected to engage in research and development, production, technical services and management in key enterprises, scientific research institutions and related functional departments.
