According to the college students' necessary network, there are three universities in Changsha 985: National University of Defense Technology, Central South University and Hunan University, and there are four universities in Changsha 2 1 1: National University of Defense Technology, Central South University, Hunan University and Hunan Normal University.

The University of National Defense Technology of Chinese People's Liberation Army was established in 1953, located in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is a unit directly under the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, and was listed as "National 156 Key Construction Project", "21Project" and "985 Project" in the First Five-Year Plan.

Central South University, located in Changsha City, Hunan Province, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), ranking among the national "Class A", "985 Project" and "21/Project". Selected into the national "20 1 1 plan" leading universities, "1/plan", excellent engineer education and training plan, excellent doctor education and training plan, excellent legal talent education and training plan, new engineering research and practice project, scholarship receiving institution of China government for overseas students, independent auditing institution with degree authorization, and national intellectual property demonstration institution.

Hunan University, referred to as "Huda" for short, located in Changsha, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the National Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and ranks among the national "World-class University Construction University", "985 Project" and "21Project".

Hunan Normal University, referred to as "Hunan Normal University", is located in Changsha City, Hunan Province. It is a key university under the national "2 1 1 project", a national "double-first-class" construction university, and a "double-first-class" construction university focused on by the Ministry of Education and Hunan Province. It is an excellent university in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level in colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education and a "world-class discipline construction university" in Hunan Province.
