Professor Shi Yigong, Vice President of Tsinghua University, Dean of School of Life Sciences of Tsinghua University and Academician of China Academy of Sciences, delivered a speech entitled "The Limits of Life Science Cognition" at the annual meeting of the Future Forum.
Different from the past, history is not limited to life medicine this time. He described how human beings accept the challenges of life through science, starting with the three challenges of cardiovascular disease, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
But in the end, the limit of human cognition of life brought his scientific thinking from biomedicine to quantum mechanics, which showed us a biologist's unremitting questioning of the mystery of life.
We have three levels of matter:
The first substance is macroscopic, that is, what we can perceive and see intuitively. For example, people are a substance, so are houses, and Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City are both substances.
The second level is microscopic, including what the eyes can't see, also called microscopic. We can intuitively think that it exists by means of instrument perception and measurement, such as atoms, molecules and protein, such as planets 10 billion light years away.
The third level is ultra-microscopic matter. For this kind, we can only speculate in theory and verify it through experiments, but we never know what it is, including quantum and photon.
Although we know that particles can have spins, energy levels and energy, it is really difficult for us to understand intuitively. This is an ultra-microscopic world.
Four questions:
First question, do you believe there is a sixth sense officer? Many people will say they don't believe it.
Second question, is it possible for two people to communicate in an unknown way? You may say maybe, but you won't say you don't believe it as definitely as the first question.
The third question, is there quantum entanglement in human cognitive world? In the brain? I believe that after listening to my lecture, you will find it very possible.
The fourth question, does quantum entanglement apply to matter on earth? You will definitely say that it will apply, because we have proved it.
