The Department of Forest Genetics and Genetic Engineering was developed from the discipline of forest genetics and breeding first founded by Professor Ye Pei Zhong, a famous forest breeder in China. It has national key disciplines of forest genetics and breeding, Jiangsu key disciplines and State Forestry Administration key disciplines, and has doctoral and master's degree programs in forest genetics and breeding, genetics, cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, forest genome and bioinformatics. The national key discipline of forest protection has been devoted to the research of major forest pest control technologies in China, especially the Southern Forest Pest Research Center, which has formed its own unique position and advantages. Botany is characterized by studying the systematic classification and evolution of important forest resources plants, revealing the basic biological laws of their growth and development and their relationship with adverse environment, and providing theoretical basis for the development and utilization of forest plant resources. In recent years, it has undertaken nearly 40 national key scientific research projects such as "948", "973" and "863", and is at an advanced level in the systematic classification fields of gymnosperms, Oleaceae, Araliaceae, bryophytes, Rosaceae and bamboos.
