The Music College of Shanxi University is the highest music education institution in Shanxi Province. Its predecessor was Shanxi Art Institute, which was founded in 1958. 1962 was merged into Shanxi University, and it is a music major in the Art Department of Shanxi University. 1990 established the department of music, and 1996 expanded it into a conservatory of music. It has a history of 57 years. Over the years, our college has always adhered to the concept of "zero teaching" with first-class creation and performance skills and the cultivation of regional cultural characteristics, and adhered to the school-running thinking and historical mission of integrating the essence of Chinese and Western art and carrying forward Sanjin culture.

Our college has eight departments of musicology, composition, orchestral music, folk music, vocal opera, national vocal music, keyboard and dance and an art research institute. There are four undergraduate majors in musicology, music performance, choreography, composition and composition theory, three master of arts degree programs and one master of arts degree program (MFA) in art theory, music and dance, drama and film (jointly organized with the Art College). For a long time, according to the characteristics of enrollment, social needs and regional characteristics, the college has actively carried out teaching reform, constantly explored talent training modes, innovated curriculum design, and built two kinds of talent training systems: top-notch and compound innovative and entrepreneurial talents. On the premise of paying attention to the cultivation of students' practical ability, innovative ability and personality development, we will strive to improve the quality of personnel training, comprehensively promote quality education, train a group of outstanding literary and art workers and educational talents, and establish a continuous leading position in the music and dance art education in the province.
