The German teaching in Tongji University can be described as the epitome of German teaching in China, which has four characteristics: long history, huge scale, complete types and emphasis on quality. Tongji University was formerly known as the German Medical Hall founded by Dr. Porun, a German doctor, in 1907. At that time, German schools set a precedent. In addition to the German literature major of the undergraduate department, Tongji University also has affiliated middle schools and freshmen, all of which are mainly taught in German. The German Department has three teaching and research sections: postgraduate teaching and research section, undergraduate teaching and research section and university German teaching and research section. In addition, there is a German center for Science and Technology, which is engaged in scientific research and teaching of practical German for Science and Technology.
