Jilin Agricultural University, located in Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province, is a provincial key university, a high-level applied research university (Class A) with the characteristics of Jilin Province, a university jointly built by the People's Government of Jilin Province and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, a "Jilin Research Institute for the Development Strategy of Engineering Science and Technology in China" jointly built by the People's Government of Jilin Province and the China Academy of Engineering, and an engineering university for the basic capacity building of universities in the central and western regions.
The school was founded on 1948. Its predecessor was 1948, an agricultural cadre school founded by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Northeast Bureau in Heilongjiang Province. 1950 was upgraded to Heilongjiang Agricultural College, 1956 was upgraded to Bei 'an Agricultural College, and four-year undergraduate education began.
