Harvard University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. It was founded in 1636 and was first created by the colonial legislature in Massachusetts. Formerly known as "New Citizen College". To commemorate the generous support given by Pastor john harvard in the early days of the college's establishment, the school was renamed "HarvardCollege" on March 1639, and Harvard College was officially renamed "HarvardUniversity" on March 1780. Harvard University consists of ten colleges and an advanced research institute, and has the largest university library system in the world.
