The Historical Evolution of Jiangnan University
Jiangnan University was formed by the merger of Wuxi University of Light Industry (the main body of Jiangnan University), Jiangnan College (following the former Rongshi private Jiangnan University) and Wuxi Institute of Education in 20001year.

Former Wuxi University of Light Industry

Wuxi University of Light Industry was formerly the Food Industry Department of Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University). Its school-running history can be traced back to Sanjiang Normal School and Liangjiang Normal School (1902) at the beginning of the 9th century, and it has the same ancestry with eight universities including Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing Normal University, Hohai University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Jiangsu University.

1952 The Department of Food Industry of Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University) was established by relevant departments of Nanjing University, Fudan University, Wuhan University, Zhejiang University and private Jiangnan University.

1958 August 18, Jiangsu Provincial People's Committee decided to move the Department of Food Industry of Nanjing Institute of Technology eastward to the former site of Yuan Hua Dongyi College in Wuxi, and named it Wuxi Institute of Food Industry, and later renamed it Wuxi Institute of Light Industry.

Established in1958165438+10/7, it is the earliest light industry research institute in China.

1962 In September, Wuxi Textile Vocational and Technical College was merged into Wuxi Institute of Light Industry to establish the Department of Textile Engineering.

1966 In the second half of the year, the headquarters of the hospital was moved to Qingshan Bay, and the former Sheqiao campus was a branch.

1In May, 1993, China National Light Industry Federation, Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, Jiangsu Provincial Education Commission and Jiangsu Provincial Textile Industry Department agreed to jointly run a school with the Textile Branch of Wuxi Institute of Light Industry, which was managed by Wuxi Institute of Light Industry, and the location of the Textile Branch became Xishan Campus of Wuxi Institute of Light Industry.

On March 9th, 1995, China National Light Industry Federation forwarded the Notice of the State Education Commission on Agreeing to Rename Wuxi Institute of Light Industry as Wuxi University of Light Industry, and Zhao Puchu wrote the name of Wuxi University of Light Industry.

1995165438+1On October 23rd, Wuxi Institute of Light Industry held the unveiling ceremony of Wuxi University of Light Industry jointly organized by China Light Industry Federation, Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and Wuxi Municipal People's Government.

1995 10, Wuxi Textile Workers' University, Wuxi Textile Industry School and Wuxi Textile Workers' Vocational School were merged into Wuxi University of Light Industry.

1998 Wuxi University of Light Industry was transferred from China Light Industry Federation to the Ministry of Education. Before the merger, it has become a national key construction university and a "2 1 1 engineering" national key university.

Former Jiangnan college

Jiangnan University is a multi-disciplinary full-time undergraduate college. Jiangnan University follows the private Jiangnan University, and its history can be traced back to 1947. Rong Desheng, a famous national industrialist, founded private Jiangnan University in Wuxi on June 1947.

From 65438 to 0947, Rong Desheng founded private Jiangnan University. In July, the preparatory office of private Jiangnan University was established, and it was decided to set up three colleges of arts, agriculture and science and engineering. In August, the Ministry of Education of the National Government approved the board of directors of private Jiangnan University to file a case, borrowing the Shenmao New Hall in Beitang, Wuxi as the office address. 12 In August, the school board was approved by the Ministry of Education of the National Government, with Wu Zhihui as the chairman and Dai and Rong Desheng as the vice-chairmen. /kloc-In August of 0/4, Qian Mu was appointed as professor and dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and Han Yanmen was appointed as professor and dean of the College of Agriculture. On August 23rd, Tang Junyi was appointed as a professor and provost. On September 10, the first board meeting was held, and Zhang Yuanruo was elected as the president of private Jiangnan University.

1952 when the departments were adjusted, the departments of the original private Jiangnan University were merged into universities in Nanjing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Yangzhou. The departments of private Jiangnan University were merged and abolished.

1980 10 the Wuxi municipal people's government decided to set up the preparatory Committee for Wuxi university, which enrolled 522 students that year.

In July 1985, with the approval of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, Wuxi University was renamed Jiangnan University. Rong Yiren, former vice president of China, is honorary chairman of the school, and Xue Muqiao, a famous economist, is honorary president of the school.

1In April, 1996, with the approval of the State Education Commission, Jiangnan University was upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college and renamed Jiangnan College.

Former Wuxi Institute of Education

Wuxi Institute of Education was established in September, 1955. Formerly known as Wuxi Middle School Teacher Amateur Training School.

1961March, with the approval of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, it was renamed Wuxi Normal University.

198 1 April, with the approval of the people's government of Jiangsu Province, Wuxi Teachers College was officially recognized as a normal college and enjoyed the same treatment as normal colleges.

1July, 983, with the approval of the people's government of Jiangsu Province, it was reported to the Ministry of Education for the record and renamed Wuxi Institute of Education. 200 1 1 With the approval of the Ministry of Education, Wuxi University of Light Industry, Jiangnan College and Wuxi Institute of Education merged to form Jiangnan University.

On August 1 day, 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the former Donghua University Wuxi Campus was merged into Jiangnan University.
